Science and Technology in Transport is a Russian scientific and practically focused journal. Printed version is circulated on average in 60 copies, average number of readers of all versions of the journal is about 1000. The issue contains 120 coloured pages of A4 format.

The contents of the journal are intended mainly for scientists, researchers, Ph.D. students, graduate and postgraduate students at transport universities, managers, specialists and experts of Russian Railways and other rail companies, owners and employees of PME of transport machine building and instrument making industry, employees of the enterprises of passenger transportation.

The journal is aspiring to provide readers with articles of scientific novelty, on topical subjects, and to ensure high culture of publications. Main topics refer to scientific and technological advancements in transport industry, operations, traffic management and control, high-speed rail, rolling stock, information technology, automation of industrial processes, passenger transportation and its facilities, civil engineering, civil engineering, buildings and structures, design and construction of roads, railways, aerodromes, bridges and transport tunnels, road and transportation safety. Reading the edition, one can also get acquainted with the opinions on the main directions of the development of the transport industry, railway digitalisation, and on many other aspects of transport science.

The journal is included in the List of peer-reviewed scientific journals approved by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education for publication of major scientific results of Ph.D. and D.Sc. dissertation research, and is indexed in Russian Index of Scientific Citation. The printed version of the journal is distributed through Ural-Press subscribing agency. The contents and full texts of the articles of the published issues are also available in Scientific electronic library at www.elibrary.ru.

Abstract

.The article proposes a system for the criterion-based assessment of the morphometric properties of the terrain of individual territorial units. An example is given of obtaining a block rating matrix based on a set of proposed criteria. An assessment of their practical applicability is provided, as well as recommendations for determining the limits of criterion informativeness.

The article discusses the experience of using continental containers, the possibility of introducing transportation using these containers on the Russian Railways network, including the use of two-tier transportation.

The article presents the main sources and methods of protection against noise pollution caused by motor vehicles. It examines a method for detecting aberrations, which allows for detailed study of the acoustic characteristics resulting from noise pollution.

Abstract

The article discusses the features of the design process for removable multi-track means of placing and securing pipes with an external weight-increasing concrete coating (EWBC) on universal flatcars. The result of the work was the issuance of a patent for a utility model. The equipment has been manufactured and approved for operation in accordance with local technical conditions for cargo transportation.

The transport network is described by a mathematical model. The article considers the possibility of increasing the network capacity by putting into operation a central diameter. The central diameter effect is illustrated by a numerical example.

The article presents the developed technical and economic criteria that allow assessing the effectiveness of conceptual solutions for the design of diesel autonomous motor-car rolling stock (AMVS) at the pre-project stage, with the aim of ensuring the highest efficiency of transportation and passenger operations.

Abstract

The time required to service trains (visual inspection, garbage removal and dry cleaning of carriages, refilling water, checking toilets, technical inspection of the running gear, braking system and wheel sets, elimination of minor malfunctions) on the arrival and departure tracks of a passenger station should be minimal. The article proposes a fundamentally new approach to calculating the required number of cleaning crews for servicing high-speed trains on the arrival and departure tracks of passenger stations.

The article is devoted to the development of an intelligent decision support system for track machine operators based on automatic obstacle detection using technical vision systems and machine learning methods (classification, detection, image segmentation). Simulation modeling was performed to evaluate the algorithms according to quality criteria.

The article proposes a methodological approach to the formation of an automated system for assigning names to stops, which is descriptive and consistent in nature. The system combines natural language processing, geolocation, fuzzy logic, and machine learning methods to generate names based on criteria such as point of interest priority, proximity, walkability, and population density.

The article examines issues related to the psychophysiological support of professional reliability among railway workers. It has been established that the methodology for studying the personality traits of locomotive crew members, taking into account factors of dependent behavior, can be used to predict the professional reliability of candidates based on the assessment of a number of their personality characteristics.

The article examines the level of occupational injuries and working conditions of passenger train conductors from 2010 to 2023; provides a detailed analysis of the state of occupational injuries among this category of workers, and proposes measures aimed at maintaining the working capacity of personnel.

The results of an analysis of the dynamics of occupational injuries in railway transport, including those involving employees of contracting organizations, are presented, and the main types of activities and causes of accidents at work, as well as the seasonal and age components of injuries, are identified. Recommendations are made to reduce injuries and improve occupational safety for employees of contracting organizations.

Abstract

The article presents recommendations for improving approaches to assessing the level of occupational safety culture using Russian Railways as an example. The recommendations concern the collection of objective data on the functioning of the occupational safety management system according to three groups of criteria, the assessment of its effectiveness for making management decisions to improve the processes of the enterprise’s occupational safety management system.
